Job Description
Public Education Coordinator (Contract)
May 2010 – March 2011 Part-Time
602 Hours Flex-Time ($12,040.00 inclusive)
Reporting to: Chair of the Sexual Assault/Public Awareness Sub-Committee of the RCCAW
Responsibilities and Key Duties
- To coordinate a sexual assault prevention project in 2 Renfrew County High Schools
- To coordinate/provide county-wide education, and training to raise awareness of violence against women and children through established project plans
- To enhance community knowledge of Renfrew County violence against women services and how to access services
- To coordinate outreach to school, youth, military, francophone and aboriginal communities
- To coordinate the RCCAW Web Site
- To enhance the ‘Neighbours, Friends and Families’ (NFF) media campaign and distribution of materials in Renfrew County www.neighboursfriendsandfamilies.on.ca
- To communicate and consult on a regular basis with the chair of the Sexual Assault/Public Awareness(SAPAW) Sub-Committee of the RCCAW through weekly telephone consults, monthly reports and budget reviews and participating in SAPAW meetings
- To perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications and Skills Required
- Thorough knowledge of feminist analysis of violence against women
- Thorough knowledge of the aims, philosophy and goals of the RCCAW and a commitment to these issues
- Experience in violence against women project coordination
- Thorough knowledge and experience in effective public education techniques with youth
- Thorough understanding of media relations and ability to deal effectively with media, press conferences and press releases
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. French an asset
- Internet and computer proficiency. Understanding of website design an asset.
- Demonstrated initiative and leadership skills
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to work to deadlines
- Ability to organize and analyze quickly
- Knowledge of Renfrew County resources
- Ability to travel throughout Renfrew County, work some weekends and evenings
- Ability to work harmoniously with groups and individuals from diverse perspectives and experience
- Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle required
- Access to computer and internet in a confidential setting
