Walking in Her Shoes Conference
RCCAW Accomplishments
The Renfrew County Committee for Abused Women (RCCAW) is an active group.
We work to eliminate violence against women in the county of Renfrew
and try to do this in several ways.
Here are some of the things we have done to date:
Walking in Her Shoes
In March 2009, the RCCAW hosted the Walking
In Her Shoes Conference that featured Stephen Lewis. The
conference focused on the links between poverty and violence against
women. It was a great success. Over 100 people participated in the two
day conference and 600 were able to hear Stephen Lewis speak.
Book Donations
One way that we support education about violence against women in our
area is by donating books to the local libraries. Recently, the following
books were donated to County libraries:
- Is It a Choice? By Eric Marcus
- Heather Has Two Mommies By Leslea Newman
Protocol Development
Our members also actively participate in the development of county wide
protocol development related to violence against women issues.
Vigils
We have hosted December 6th vigils in honour of the National Day of
Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women.
Neighbours Friends and Families
Campaign
In 2008, we implemented the county wide Neighbours Friends and Families
Campaign. For more information visit www.neighboursfriendsandfamilies.ca
